What is Overshoes?

Shoe covers are used in quarantine rooms in hospitals and in various other departments to prevent contamination. In particular, it is produced as a single use and sterilized in order to prevent the spread of infection.

It allows the comfortable movement of nurses, doctors and other duties in departments of hospitals such as neonatal service, infectious disease service and operation rooms. It also prevents the patient from being exposed to bacteria and viruses that carry infectious diseases. As it was known before, sterilized gloves and mouth mask were some of the measures in use. However, little attention was paid to such measures in the foot area and this area was not considered to be a source of infection. Ignoring this issue has led to the transport of infectious substances to the hospital rooms via the footpath. To give an example, although all precautions have been taken to provide a sterile operating environment, diseased microorganisms can enter these sections through the patient or doctor. This situation threatens not only the patient but also the team who will perform the surgery. Such microorganisms are ready to interact with the air and the ground. Microorganisms are carried to many regions with people when they enter and leave the operating room and similar areas with shoes used during the day. These transported microorganisms threaten the health of not only the hospital staff but also the patients. For this reason, the purpose of the shoe covers is to prevent exposure to the unexpected infections mentioned above. Shoe covers are generally used in surgeries that need to be sterile, and the person using the shoe covers removes it before leaving the area. When people enter and leave the operating room and similar areas with the shoes used during the day, they move to many regions with the people. These transported microorganisms threaten the health of not only the hospital staff but also the patients. For this reason, the purpose of use of shoe covers is to prevent exposure to unexpected infections mentioned above. Shoe covers are generally used in surgeries that need to be sterile, and the person using the shoe covers removes it before leaving the area.
